A federal jury in Indianapolis has convicted Deontai Williams, 33, on charges related to drug trafficking and illegal possession of firearms. Williams was found guilty of distributing fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine. He was also convicted for possessing eight firearms while being a felon and for using those weapons in connection with his drug trafficking activities.

Court documents and trial evidence showed that on January 17, 2025, authorities discovered Williams with around 40 grams of methamphetamine, 30 grams of cocaine, and 80 grams of fentanyl pills and powder. The fentanyl amounted to about 800 doses. Law enforcement also seized several firearms from Williams: two AR-style pistols (Delton and American Tactical), a 12-gauge shotgun, a 28mm pistol, a Smith & Wesson .38 special revolver, a Rexio 22Lr firearm, a Glock 9mm pistol, and a Springfield 9mm pistol.

Despite having prior felony convictions—including battery resulting in bodily injury to a person under the age of fourteen, unlawful residential entry, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, and dealing in methamphetamine—Williams continued his involvement in armed drug trafficking. Photographic evidence presented at trial depicted him holding multiple firearms. His previous convictions legally barred him from owning or possessing any guns.

The Drug Enforcement Administration led the investigation into this case. U.S. District Chief Judge James R. Sweeney II presided over the trial proceedings and is scheduled to sentence Williams at an upcoming date.

U.S. Attorney Wheeler expressed appreciation for Assistant U.S. Attorneys Patrick Gibson and Samantha Spiro for prosecuting the case with support from Paralegal Specialist Shané Penney.
