Miguel Bermudez-Herrera, a 48-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to six months in prison for illegally reentering the United States after being previously removed. The sentencing was handed down by United States District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund following Bermudez-Herrera’s guilty plea to the felony charge.

After completing his prison term, Bermudez-Herrera will be subject to one year of supervised release if he unlawfully remains in or returns to the United States during that period following expected removal proceedings.

Court records show that Bermudez-Herrera had been removed from the country twice before, once in 1997 and again in 2008. He has been held in custody since his arrest on October 10, 2025.

The investigation into this case was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations with support from the Valparaiso Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Zachary D. Heater prosecuted the case.

United States Attorney Adam L. Mildred announced the sentence.
