Travis Frazier, a 28-year-old resident of Rochester, Indiana, has been sentenced to 54 months in federal prison followed by two years of supervised release. The sentencing was handed down by United States District Court Judge Cristal C. Brisco after Frazier pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and for possessing a firearm following a misdemeanor conviction for domestic violence.
According to court documents, Frazier accidentally discharged a loaded firearm while holding his infant child, resulting in the child being struck by bullet fragments. At the time of the incident, Frazier had prior convictions that made it illegal for him to possess firearms.
Acting United States Attorney M. Scott Proctor announced the sentencing. “Frazier was sentenced to 54 months in prison followed by 2 years of supervised release.”
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with assistance from both the Rochester Police Department and the South Bend Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Lydia T. Lucius prosecuted the case.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative designed to reduce violent crime and gun violence through cooperation among law enforcement agencies and community groups. In May 2021, the Department introduced a strategy aimed at strengthening PSN by focusing on building trust within communities, supporting organizations that work to prevent violence, setting targeted enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
