Jordan Bowers, a 20-year-old resident of South Bend, Indiana, has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of a machinegun. The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Cristal C. Brisco. Following his prison term, Bowers will also serve two years of supervised release.
Court documents state that on January 23, 2024, Bowers possessed a firearm equipped with a machinegun-conversion device known as a “Glock switch.” This device allows the firearm to fire multiple bullets rapidly. Authorities reported that Bowers used the modified Glock during an exchange of gunfire with another individual who was driving a car.
“Jordan Bowers illegally possessed and used a Glock switch,” said Acting U.S. Attorney M. Scott Proctor. “This District is committed to seizing these devices and prosecuting those who illegally possess them. I commend the law enforcement team that brought this case.”
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with assistance from the South Bend Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Lydia T. Lucius prosecuted the case.
This prosecution falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through cooperation between law enforcement agencies and local communities. In May 2021, the Department launched an updated violent crime reduction strategy for PSN focusing on building trust within communities, supporting prevention efforts by community organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
