Sue Brown-Nickerson was recognized on April 14 as the recipient of the Indiana State Bar Association’s Henry Hurst Judicial Assistance Award. Brown-Nickerson currently serves as the Courtroom Deputy Clerk and Case Manager to U.S. Magistrate Judge John E. Martin, and also provides criminal duty coverage for U.S. Magistrate Judge Andrew P. Rodovich.

The award highlights her commitment to supporting federal courts and promoting justice and efficiency within Indiana’s legal system.

According to the announcement, Brown-Nickerson has provided case management support for U.S. District Judge Theresa Lazar Springmann and U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul R. Cherry over her 31 years of federal judicial service.

Her experience has made her a mentor to both chambers and clerk’s office staff, offering guidance to new magistrate judge case managers in the district. The statement said she is known for being generous with her time, maintaining a positive attitude, and ensuring communication among law clerks and staff members throughout the district so that all judges are supported.

“She is always communicating with law clerks and clerk’s office staff members throughout the district to ensure all judges are supported,” according to the announcement.
